The highly anticipated comeback of KITTIE, the renowned Canadian nü-metal turned alternative metal outfit, is on the horizon, marking their first venture into new music since 2011

Collaborating with acclaimed producer Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with DEFTONES and KORN, the band is poised to unleash their latest creations onto the world stage. Alongside revealing a fresh press image, KITTIE has also treated fans to a tantalizing teaser video, hinting at the sonic journey awaiting eager listeners.

In a recent talk with Knotfest‘s “She’s With The Band” podcast, drummer Mercedes Lander and guitarist/vocalist Morgan Lander discussed the status of the songwriting sessions for the long-awaited follow-up to the band’s 2011 album “I’ve Failed You“. Mercedes said: “I’m gonna say that we are just really stoked to write 1,200 percent bangers. I think that’s just where we’re at now. We want people to feel good. We want people to feel what we’re feeling. I feel like bangers, that’s what we’re good at.”

When asked about the possibility of the band combining some of their classic sound and mixing it up with a new influence, Morgan said: “I think marrying some of the ideas, ’cause I don’t think we’re ever going to put our JNCOs [jeans] on again. But, yeah, the idea of marrying some of those ideas — like who we are now with the ideas of who maybe we used to be and kind of being able to meet somewhere in the middle, but in a way that will just create something brand new again. I’m excited for it to be unleashed upon the world.”

When asked if KITTIE is planning to release singles or an album, Morgan said: “Things are happening, wheels are in motion, but we are just not able to announce anything yet. But I guess the blanket statement could be, like, people who are excited about KITTIE will continue to be excited for the next year. Things are happening. And I think it will be a really good year for us.” Mercedes added: “I think people are gonna be really excited when they find out what we’ve been up to.”

Recently, at some of their live performances, KITTIE has been showcasing a fresh track titled “Vultures.”

The band marked their return to the stage after a five-year hiatus with a concert in September 2022 at the Blue Ridge Rock Festival, held at the Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Virginia.

The current lineup of KITTIE features Morgan and Mercedes alongside guitarist Tara McLeod and bassist Ivana “Ivy” Vujic.

Before the Blue Ridge performance, KITTIE‘s last live show was their reunion gig at London Music Hall in their hometown of London, Ontario, back in 2017. This event celebrated the release of their documentary “Kittie: Origins/Evolutions.”

In January 2022, the original lineup of the band—Morgan, Mercedes, Fallon Bowman (guitar), and Tanya Candler (bass)—reunited for an online chat commemorating the 22nd anniversary of their gold-certified debut album, “Spit.”

Candler departed from the group following the release of “Spit” to complete her high school education, and she was succeeded by Talena Atfield.

Bowman left KITTIE in 2001 to pursue her own industrial/electronic project, AMPHIBIOUS ASSAULT.

After wrapping up the touring cycle for their 2011 album “I’ve Failed You,” KITTIE entered a prolonged period of inactivity. During this time, Morgan delved into a marketing role with a chain of fitness clubs, while Mercedes ventured into real estate and later joined a software company. The band also embarked on creating a comprehensive documentary about their journey, titled “Origins/Evolutions,” which finally premiered in 2018 via Lightyear Entertainment in North America.

I’ve Failed You” made its mark by selling 3,000 copies in the United States during its debut week, earning it the No. 178 spot on The Billboard 200 chart.
