EVANESCENCE singer Amy Lee says she’s “grateful” to still be making music 20 years after the release of the “Fallen” album
In a recent conversation with Australia’s “Today,” Amy Lee, the lead vocalist of EVANESCENCE, was questioned about her emotions regarding the enduring impact of the band’s first album, “Fallen,” released in 2003. It’s remarkable to witness how the album continues to connect with a global audience and captivate fresh waves of fans from new generations.
She responded (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “Oh, great. This is a big year. It’s an anniversary year, so 20 years since ‘Fallen’ this year. So there has been more focus on it again in a cool way. We’ve been through so much together. I think the biggest thing that I feel about all of that is really about the journey for us, for me and through the band, but also with our fans.
“We’ve all lived a lot of life in that time and it makes the songs more meaningful. It’s not really just about like the initial meaning so much anymore. It’s become something just so much bigger, because we’ve had so much time together. And new fans? You always want new fans. Come on.”
Lee also talked about the music video for “Fallen”‘s first single, “Bring Me To Life”, recently surpassing one billion views on YouTube. She said: “It’s awesome. I mean, it’s crazy. There’s a lot of milestones that have been happening lately with the first record. I never thought back then — I couldn’t have imagined how far we’ve come and that we’re here now still making music we love and earning new fans. Man, 20 years — it’s a beautiful thing. I’m so grateful.”
Marking the 20th anniversary of “Fallen,” EVANESCENCE commenced their Australian tour last Thursday evening (August 24) in Brisbane. This five-stop journey signifies the band’s return to Australia, following their exceptional collaboration with local symphony orchestras in 2018.
EVANESCENCE emerged in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the late 1990s. Led by the dynamic and emotive vocals of Amy Lee, the band quickly gained prominence for their unique fusion of rock, alternative, and gothic elements. Founded by Lee and guitarist Ben Moody, EVANESCENCE initially gained attention through local performances and self-released music.
In 2003, the band achieved worldwide recognition with their debut album “Fallen,” featuring hits like “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal.” The album’s success propelled them to the forefront of the rock scene, earning critical acclaim and commercial triumph.
Despite internal changes and shifts in the lineup, EVANESCENCE continued to produce compelling music that resonated with audiences. Their subsequent albums, such as “The Open Door” (2006), “Evanescence” (2011), and “Synthesis” (2017), showcased the band’s evolution and willingness to experiment with orchestral and electronic elements.
Throughout their career, EVANESCENCE‘s music has been characterized by Amy Lee‘s powerful vocals, introspective lyrics, and a blend of heavy and ethereal sounds. Their ability to convey raw emotions through their music has fostered a dedicated fan base, and their impact on the rock genre remains influential. With chart-topping albums, numerous awards, and a distinctive sound, EVANESCENCE continues to be a prominent force in the rock music landscape.
