AVATAR‘s ninth album, “Dance Devil Dance”, was released in February via Black Waltz Records, distributed by Thirty Tigers.
AVATAR, hailing from the land of Vikings and meatballs, was formed in Gothenburg, Sweden, back in 2001. Like a band of musical berserkers, they set out to conquer the metal scene with their unique blend of aggression, melody, and theatricality. And boy, did they succeed!
In the early days, AVATAR unleashed their ferocious energy through a series of EPs and underground releases. These raw and unpolished gems showcased their unmistakable talent and a burning desire to forge their own path in the metal universe.
But it was in 2009 that AVATAR truly made their mark on the world with their breakthrough album, appropriately titled “Avatar.” This sonic assault unleashed an unstoppable force, capturing the hearts of metal fans far and wide. With their electrifying stage presence and charismatic frontman Johannes Eckerström, AVATAR quickly gained a reputation as one of the most captivating live acts in the genre.
With the wind in their sails, AVATAR continued to conquer new territories, both musically and geographically. Their 2012 album, “Black Waltz,” showcased a more refined sound, blending elements of melodic death metal with catchy hooks and infectious melodies. It was a glorious testament to their evolving artistry.
But the band’s quest for world domination didn’t stop there. In 2014, they unleashed “Hail the Apocalypse,” an album that cemented their status as true heavy metal juggernauts. This explosive record was a glorious onslaught of headbanging anthems and thunderous riffs that left fans craving more.
Ever the masters of reinvention, AVATAR once again defied expectations with their 2016 release, “Feathers & Flesh.” This concept album took listeners on a journey through a surreal and dark fairytale world, showcasing the band’s boundless creativity and willingness to push the boundaries of their sound.
And just when you thought they couldn’t possibly surprise you any further, the Swedish metallers unleashed “Avatar Country,” in 2018. This album was a celebration of all things AVATAR, blending their signature heaviness with a healthy dose of humor and tongue-in-cheek storytelling. Who knew that heavy metal and kingship could go hand in hand?
Throughout their illustrious career, AVATAR has proven time and time again that they are a force to be reckoned with. Their dedication to crafting intense, genre-bending music and delivering unforgettable live performances has earned them a devoted following around the globe.
