Canadian thrash metallers SUNSET HATE unleash pummeling tribute to iconic drummer Dave Lombardo with epic track “Lombardo”
Southern Ontario thrash metal outfit SUNSET HATE have paid tribute to legendary metal drummer Dave Lombardo (SLAYER, SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, MISFITS, TESTAMENT etc.) with their latest single.
The song is featured on the band’s second EP “D-Day” which fittingly arrived on June 6th of this year.
SUNSET HATE formed in 2020 but was quickly held up by lockdowns. Yet that didn’t stop guitarist/song writer Brian V and drummer Matt Rogue from writing and recording demos and growing their aggressive sound. However, it would seem a bigger roadblock would arise for the burgeoning thrashers with drummer Rogue being called away over seas for what would be his last tour of duty. Not one to let anything stop him from doing what he’s set out to do, Rogue packed up his kit and took it with him, recording his tracks to the bands self titled debut ep in a literal warzone.
Fast forward 2023, the band would trudge forward amidst a number of lineup changes including the addition of lead vocalist and bassist Michael Diabys. Diabys hails from the Ukraine and made the move to Canada with his family in 1990 with a heavy concentration on developing his craft as a multi instrumentalist and composer. Michael recently released a solo LP with guest artists Max Phelps, Forest Lapointe and Robin Stone.
Diabys adds to the rest of the original lineup with Matt Rogue (Ottawa, Ontario native, retired 17 yr Special Forces Veteran, 3 x fittest Assaulter in Canada) on drums. Rogue started playing drums early on in life and delved into punk and metalcore bands prior to his joining the military. Recently retired, he has picked up where he left off, playing drums and loving life to the fullest as a father and cyclone of a drummer.
Guitarist Hellwood Cochrane, hailing from outside Ottawa on a Dairy farm, learned to play piano and sing from a very early age with a mother who’s a classically trained musician/teacher. Until at the age of nine, he discovered the music of Jimi Hendrix and picked up a Martin D-18 guitar, never looking back. Not soon after he discovered heavy metal and you can plainly see, and hear where that’s brought him too.
Guitarist/Songwriter Brian V fills out the other guitarist role of shredding riffs with pulverizing precision. Hailing from Oshawa, Ontario, Brian grew up playing hockey until the age of 11 until discovering the addiction of guitar from his friend Baz Littlerock. Metal soon followed.
