INFECTIOUS GROOVES, the enduring band initiated over three decades ago by current METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo and his then-SUICIDAL TENDENCIES counterpart Mike Muir, has commenced studio work on a fresh track with new drummer Jay Weinberg

Co-penned by former INFECTIOUS GROOVES guitarist Adam Siegel, this release marks the group’s debut with ex-SLIPKNOT drummer Jay Weinberg, who joined the lineup in January.

On Monday (February 26), INFECTIOUS GROOVES shared a photo from the studio and included the following message: “So much fun and what a blast! Lots of smiles and a killer new jam!

“Yesterday INFECTIOUS GROOVES was back in the studio, recording a new track and we can’t wait for you to hear. We even got our old guitar player (and amazing artist) Adam Siegel out of ‘retirement’ to help write this jam (not pictured due to having to leave early)

“Huge thanks to Tim Armstrong for always welcoming us into his studio and Joey Castillo for letting us use his drums. And damn, Jay Weinberg beat and grooved the hell out of them! Was so much fun watching him do his thing, and start everything off with a blast.

“More updates soon. We can’t wait to share more soon.
INFECTIOUS GROOVES is in the house! (And the studio!)”

Formed shortly after Trujillo‘s induction into SUICIDAL TENDENCIES in 1989, INFECTIOUS GROOVES emerged from collaborative sessions aiming to spotlight bass-driven compositions while affording ample creative latitude to all members.

The collective of musicians came out of the gate as a dynamic fusion metal band, showcasing the incredible bass talents of Trujillo coupled with Mike Muir‘s unique vocal delivery. Both being very prominent figures in the thrash metal scene of the late 1980s, the L.A. band embarked on a musical journey that defied conventional genre boundaries, blending elements of funk, thrash metal, punk, and alternative rock.

With their unique sound and incredible live performances, INFECTIOUS GROOVES quickly gained widespread attention within the metal community. With their debut album “The Plague That Makes Your Booty Move…It’s the Infectious Grooves” released in 1991, the band showcased their eclectic style and irreverent sense of humor. Tracks like “Therapy” and “Punk It Up” became instant classics, earning the band a dedicated, and swelling, following.

Over the years, INFECTIOUS GROOVES underwent various lineup changes while maintaining their signature sound and electrifying stage presence. With Trujillo‘s commitments to METALLICA, the band occasionally took hiatuses but continued to reunite for special performances and recording projects.

In 2024, INFECTIOUS GROOVES resurfaced with a renewed lineup featuring ex-SLIPKNOT drummer Weinberg alongside Muir, Trujillo, and guitarists Pleasants and Kushner. Their return to the studio and upcoming live shows signal a revival of their infectious energy and pioneering spirit.

With a legacy spanning more than three decades, the group remains an influential force in the realm of alternative metal, inspiring countless bands and leaving an indelible mark on the music industry with their innovative blend of genres and unbridled creativity.
