GHOST have shared their cover of SHAKESPEARE’s SISTER’s “Stay” from the soundtrack to the horror film ‘Insidious: The Red Door’, featuring guest vocals from actor Patrick Wilson
Swedish occult rockers GHOST has unveiled their latest single titled “Stay,” featuring guest vocals from actor Patrick Wilson. This captivating track is a cover of SHAKESPEARE’s SISTER‘s popular 1992 hit and holds a significant place in the final scene and credits of the newly released horror film, “Insidious: The Red Door“.
The story behind this remarkable cover began when Wilson, a devoted GHOST fan who stars in the franchise, had a meeting with the band’s frontman, Tobias Forge, to discuss the film. Notably, this film also marks Wilson‘s directorial debut, showcasing his talents beyond acting. During their conversation, Wilson was inspired by Forge‘s previous collaboration with Joe Elliott from DEF LEPPARD on the alternative version of “Spillways” from GHOST‘s acclaimed 2022 album, “Impera“.
Motivated by this collaboration, Wilson reached out to Forge with the desire to embark on a joint project of their own. To his delight, Forge revealed that he had been working on a cover of the iconic SHAKESPEARE’s SISTER classic. Recognizing Wilson‘s background as a classically trained Broadway singer, Forge extended an invitation for him to join the track as a duet partner.
The combination of Wilson‘s powerful vocal prowess and GHOST‘s signature musical style has resulted in a mesmerizing rendition of “Stay.” Their collaboration brings a fresh interpretation to the beloved 1992 hit, infusing it with their unique artistic sensibilities and mutual passion for music.
Fans of GHOST and admirers of Patrick Wilson‘s acting career eagerly await the release of this exceptional cover. The haunting melodies and captivating performances promise to leave a lasting impact on listeners. With Wilson‘s extensive experience in Broadway and Forge‘s musical genius, this collaboration represents a meeting of extraordinary talent and artistic vision.
Speaking of the single, Wilson explains, “It was Joe Bishara, our Insidious composer and resident Lipstick Demon who first got me into Ghost about 10 years ago. Joe knew I liked metal…but he also knew I liked melody. What can I say? I’m a child of the ‘80s… when soaring voices and blazing guitars were played at every dance, every fast food parking lot, and every day in my house. Ghost had the right blend of metal, melody, and an unforgettable image. This coming from a guy who collected Kiss cards in the ’70s…so I know good rock branding and imagery when I see it!”
Of his love for the band, he adds: “Ghost, for me, is one of the most unique rock bands out there. Tobias’ sense of melody is only matched by his storytelling. The blistering imagery of him and the band is unlike any other. The balance of dark lyrics with soaring (and dare I say… angelic) melodies, make listening to them a different experience than any other band out there. At least that’s what it does for me.
“So clearly, when I wanted a band that embodied the spirit of Insidious lore, I knew where to look first. Stay is such a hauntingly beautiful tune to end my film with, because the dark lyrics juxtaposed against the sweeping melody (written by Dave Stewart) are a great bookend to my film.”
Elaborating on what it was like to duet with the GHOST frontman, the actor/director concludes: “Singing on it, alongside Tobias, was an absolute thrill. I wanted the tune to feel like it was Josh Lambert (my character) singing…and then being tempted by the devil (the lipstick demon)…in this case, sung by the brilliant Tobias Forge. Tobias’ tone is a sharp contrast to mine, and his new arrangement of the song is faithful yet fresh. It was an honour to be featured on the tune, and I can’t thank Tobias and the Ghost crew, especially Tim Bickford and Kristen Mulderig, for making this happen.
“Ghost is the perfect blend of theatricality met with musical mastery. Tobias is at the top of his game and I’m thrilled to have him on the soundtrack, and honoured to sing alongside him.”
GHOST continues to push boundaries and captivate audiences with their distinctive blend of rock, metal, and theatrical elements. Their ability to transcend genres and create music that resonates with a wide range of listeners has solidified their place in the rock music landscape. By inviting Patrick Wilson to lend his remarkable vocals to “Stay,” GHOST once again demonstrates their willingness to explore new artistic horizons and engage in exciting collaborations.
As fans immerse themselves in the eerie world of Insidious: The Red Door, they will have the opportunity to experience GHOST‘s cover of “Stay” during the film’s final scene and credits. This placement adds a thrilling dimension to the collaboration, allowing the music to become an integral part of the overall cinematic experience.
