Ex-MR. BUNGLE keyboardist arrested for killing his girlfriend
The collaboration between the Capitola Police Department, the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office, El Cerrito Police Department, and the Department of Justice has resulted in the successful apprehension of Theobald “Theo” Brooks Lengyel, a former member of MR. BUNGLE, in connection with the homicide of his girlfriend, Alice “Alyx” Kamakaokalani, a 61-year-old resident of Capitola, California.
On Tuesday (January 2), the 54-year-old Lengyel was arrested with the assistance of the Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office in Santa Cruz County. The Capitola Police Department, assuming the lead role in the case, conducted a comprehensive and collaborative investigation, working closely with the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office and the El Cerrito Police Department.
Kamakaokalani was last seen on December 3, 2023, prompting a missing person investigation by law enforcement agencies. The Capitola Police Department, in conjunction with the El Cerrito Police Department, initiated an investigation into her disappearance on December 12, 2023.
Detectives from the Capitola Police Department gathered evidence, conducted interviews, and collaborated with partner agencies to unravel the circumstances surrounding Kamakaokalani’s disappearance. As the investigation progressed, it became evident that foul play was involved, leading to the identification of Lengyel as a suspect.
During the course of the investigation, human remains were discovered in a wooded area within Tilden Regional Park in Berkeley. The identification of the human remains is pending DNA confirmation from the Contra County Coroner’s Office.
A statement from the Capitola police expressed condolences to the family and friends of the victim and highlighted the diligent work of investigators in collaboration with law enforcement partners. Lengyel is currently in custody, and the Capitola Police Department will collaborate closely with the Santa Cruz County District Attorney’s Office to ensure a thorough prosecution of the case.
The investigation remains ongoing, with authorities committed to uncovering the details surrounding this tragic incident.
According to SFGate, Lengyel, a founding member of MR. BUNGLE, spent nearly a decade with the band, contributing as a saxophonist, clarinet player, and keyboardist. He appeared on the MR. BUNGLE demo “The Raging Wrath Of The Easter Bunny” and the band’s initial major label albums, “Mr. Bungle” (1991) and “Disco Volante” (1995).
