Lacroix served as the frontman for CRYPTOPSY from 2001 to 2003, leaving his mark on the band’s 2003 live album, “None So Live.”

His vocal prowess was further showcased during his time with SEROCS from 2014 to 2015 and ENMITY from 2023 until the present day.

Beyond his contributions to the music scene, Lacroix made significant artistic contributions, providing artwork and logos for bands such as AUGURY, BEYOND CREATION, CRYPTOPSY and GORGUTS.

CRYPTOPSY released an official statement regarding his passing which reads: “Farewell to Martin Lacroix, a formidable presence in Cryptopsy. His brutal vocals, artistic prowess, and his warmth as a human will be dearly missed. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.”

GORGUTS as well posted a tribute to the late vocalist on their own social media pages which reads: “It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear friend [Martin Lacroix]. Martin was not only a gifted artist but also a close companion of Luc, residing nearby in Sherbrooke. Lacroix, a dedicated Gorguts fan, crafted the HarpSkull design for our shirts and later contributed to the entire artwork of Colored Sands (2013) on Season of Mist and some pieces for …And Then Comes Lividity: A Demo Anthology (2014) on War on Music Records. The scene has lost a precious gem, and he will always be remembered. RIP, Brother.”

During this challenging time, our thoughts are with Martin Lacroix‘s family and friends, and we extend our heartfelt condolences.

CRYPTOPSY, a trailblazing force in the realm of death metal, originated in 1988 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The band’s inception saw a lineup consisting of drummer Mike Atkin, guitarist Steve Thibault, vocalist Dan Greening (LORD WORM), and bassist Martin Fergusson. Drawing inspiration from the burgeoning death metal scene, CRYPTOPSY quickly gained recognition for their technical prowess and intense, genre-defying sound.

Over the years, CRYPTOPSY underwent several lineup changes, a common occurrence in the dynamic landscape of death metal. Notable past members include guitarist Jon Levasseur, who joined in 1993 and played a significant role in the band’s evolution. CRYPTOPSY achieved critical acclaim with their debut album, “Blasphemy Made Flesh,” released in 1994, showcasing their technical proficiency and avant-garde approach to death metal. The lineup changes continued, and each iteration of the band brought its unique flavor to subsequent releases.

The band’s geographic origins in Canada added a distinctive touch to their death metal offerings, contributing to the diversity of the genre. With a discography that includes standout albums like “None So Vile” (1996) and “And Then You’ll Beg” (2000), CRYPTOPSY has left an indelible mark on the death metal landscape.

While lineup changes and artistic experimentation have been part of CRYPTOPSY‘s journey, the band’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of death metal has solidified their place as innovators within the genre.
