DECAPITATED‘s evolution spans eight studio albums, transforming from the youthful aspirations of teens in a small Central European town to becoming stalwarts of the metal genre. With each successive release, the band’s sonic landscape expands, embracing genre-bending authenticity and unwavering integrity. The tale of DECAPITATED is akin to a rose flourishing in the devil’s garden—triumph emerging from tragedy. Their brand of extreme metal, adorned with gleeful grotesquery and relentless riff mastery, invites listeners to unearth profound truths.

The 2022 release, “Cancer Culture,” stands as their latest testament, resonating with instantly recognizable devastation and deviously sinister hooks. Anthems like “Last Supper,” “Hello Death,” “Just A Cigarette,” “No Cure,” “Iconoclast,” and the title track “Cancer Culture” shimmer with razor-sharp production and unyielding bombast.

Notably, a newfound emphasis on melody, occasionally venturing into darkly romantic realms, adds layers to their sonic arsenal. Wacław “Vogg” Kiełtyka (guitar), Rafał “Rasta” Piotrowski (vocals), Paweł Pasek (bass), and James Stewart (drums) deliver peak performances, with notable guest appearances by JINJER vocalist Tatiana Shmayluk and MACHINE HEAD frontman Robb Flynn. Flynn‘s hauntingly beautiful vocals grace the track “Iconoclast,” while Shmayluk, known for her formidable screams, takes a cleaner vocal approach on “Hello Death.”

In a parallel narrative, SEPTICFLESH (originally SEPTIC FLESH) emerged in the early ’90s in Greece, founded by Spyridon Antoniou (Seth Siro Anton) on vocals/bass, Christos Antoniou on guitar, and Sotirios Vagenas (Sotiris Anunnaki V.) on guitar/clean vocals.

Their debut EP, “Temple Of The Lost Race” (1991), paved the way for full-length albums like “Mystic Places Of Dawn” (1994) and “Esoptron” (1995). The addition of female soprano vocalist Natalie Rassoulis in “Ophidian Wheel” (1997) marked a shift toward a more symphonic style, continuing with “A Fallen Temple” (1998). Despite a temporary disbandment, SEPTICFLESH reunited and evolved their sound with “Communion” (2008), incorporating symphonic elements fully in collaboration with the Filmharmonic Orchestra of Prague.

The journey continued with notable releases like “The Great Mass” (2011), produced by Peter Tägtgren, “Titan” (2014) with Logan Mader, and “Codex Omega” (2017), initiating a long-standing collaboration with Jens Bogren. In 2020, they unleashed the epic and fully orchestrated “Live in Mexico” titled “Infernus Sinfonica MMXIX” on CD, LP, DVD, and Blu-ray, showcasing the symphonic grandeur that defines their unique musical identity.
