ZAKK SABBATH are set to release their cover of the BLACK SABBATH classic “Fairies Wear Boots”
ZAKK SABBATH, the revered BLACK SABBATH tribute band featuring the multitalented guitarist/vocalist Zakk Wylde (known for his work with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY and OZZY OSBOURNE), along with bassist Robert “Blasko” Nicholson (previously with OZZY OSBOURNE and ROB ZOMBIE), and drummer Joey Castillo (with credentials including DANZIG and QUEEN OF THE STONE AGE), is set to unleash a fresh single, “Fairies Wear Boots,” due for release on December 5 through Magnetic Eye Records.
This new rendition of “Fairies Wear Boots” by ZAKK SABBATH will be presented as a vinyl seven-inch single and will kick off its exclusive tour edition debut at the Ace Of Spades in Sacramento, California on December 5. For fans around the world, a direct sales and retail edition of the “Fairies Wear Boots” seven-inch on electric green vinyl can be pre-ordered online starting today. The track was recorded at the Black Vatican and Clear Lake Audio studios, produced by Zakk Wylde, and engineered by Jay Ruston and Adam Fuller. The cover art was expertly designed by Łukasz Jaszak.
Originally featured as the closing track on BLACK SABBATH‘s sophomore album “Paranoid” in 1970, “Fairies Wear Boots” begins with a slow introduction before evolving into a metal-infused, bluesy, and somewhat whimsical rhythm, aligning perfectly with the tongue-in-cheek lyrics penned by Ozzy Osbourne.
ZAKK SABBATH is a labor of love and was conceived by Zakk Wylde, celebrated for his extensive tenure as the lead guitarist for OZZY OSBOURNE and his work with BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. This project pays homage to the band that is often heralded as the pioneers of heavy metal: BLACK SABBATH.
Initially, ZAKK SABBATH performed with a rotating lineup and eventually released a 12-inch EP titled “Live In Detroit” in 2017. However, it wasn’t until the addition of Blasko and Castillo that they solidified their core lineup. ZAKK SABBATH‘s decision to embark on a fitting tribute came in light of the 50th anniversary of BLACK SABBATH‘s eponymous debut album, a groundbreaking record released on a Friday the 13th in 1970 that had a profound impact on the music world.
In a DIY spirit, ZAKK SABBATH faithfully recorded the songs from the “Black Sabbath” album in the studio, capturing the essence of the original, famously recorded in a single day in 1969. While staying true to the core, they added their own touch, reviving various live renditions and incorporating unique solos, maintaining the improvisational nature of their live performances.
In 2020, ZAKK SABBATH paid their homage to the monumental heavy metal landmark with an album titled “Vertigo,” a nod to BLACK SABBATH‘s iconic label, Vertigo Records.
