In September 2020, ZAKK SABBATH paid a magnificent tribute to the legendary Birmingham quartet by unleashing their electrifying rendition of BLACK SABBATH‘s debut album through Magnetic Eye Records.
Exactly half a century after the original album’s release, ZAKK SABBATH commemorated this pivotal chapter in the SABBATH legacy with a deeply respectful homage aptly titled “Vertigo.” Staying true to the original recording approach, the band captured their performance live in the studio, accompanied by a dedicated film crew documenting the entire creative journey. The result was a reimagined version of a landmark album, honoring the most iconic heavy metal band of all time and the record that marked the inception of a genre-defining legacy.
“We recorded a live EP and were wondering what we could do next as a cover band, so the 50th album anniversary came just at the right time”, explained Blasko regarding ZAKK SABBATH‘s decision to go studio. “Compared to ‘Paranoid’, which is almost like a best-of record, the bulk of the material on ‘Black Sabbath’ is deep-cut, really experimental stuff that was never thoroughly explored, so that was a challenge, not to forget that we wanted to meet our own high standards.”
