TRIVIUM’s next album will come from a “Ascendancy” headspace and feature BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE frontman Matt Tuck
Next year, TRIVIUM and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE are embarking on a tour to commemorate their acclaimed 2005 albums, “Ascendancy” and “The Poison” respectively. This tour promises fans a special treat as both bands will perform each record in its entirety, allowing for a nostalgic journey through their early material.
With extensive time dedicated to revisiting these older tracks, one might wonder about the impact on their newer creations. TRIVIUM‘s frontman, Matt Heafy, shared insights in an interview with Rock Sound, revealing the band’s intention to immerse themselves once again in the mindset of “Ascendancy” while crafting new material. Additionally, there’s even speculation about potentially enlisting Matt Tuck from BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE for a guest appearance, adding an exciting twist to their upcoming ventures.
“What we’ve been talking about is trying – not even trying – but getting back in the headspace of Ascendancy,” said Matt Heafy as transcribed by Metal Injection. “Since we’ll be in that headspace, writing new music there and definitely having [Matt Tuck] on vocals. He has to do it now that it’s on film. He has to do it. So that I think that’ll be amazing.”
Matt Tuck also spoke about BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE‘s upcoming plans, teasing that there might be a collaboration between them and TRIVIUM in the lead-up to the tour.
“We’re doing some very special limited editions of vinyls of The Poison [and the 2005 EP Hand Of Blood], and combining a bunch of stuff with behind the scenes never released footage and artwork and all that kind of good stuff,” said Tuck. “Maybe even doing a collab with another band [Tuck then turns to Heafy]. You know, stuff like that. We’ll see how that goes.”

Released in 2005, the impact of both albums on the evolution of modern metal is undeniable. For BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE, “The Poison” was their debut album, which saw the band propelled to unimaginable heights. That year saw the Welsh metallers graduate from supporting FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND on their U.K. run in the summer, to ending the year headlining the very same venues just months later. Dropping in October 2005, “The Poison” hit number 21 in the U.K. album charts, becoming a late contender in end of year polls, placing at number seven on Kerrang!‘s “Albums Of The Year” list, and since achieving gold status.
Released in March of 2005, TRIVIUM crafted a classic in the form of “Ascendancy”. It concluded 2005 as Kerrang!‘s “Album Of The Year,” went gold in the U.K., and has since surpassed global sales of 500,000 copies. Opening the main stage of Download festival that year, the Floridian four piece — barely out of their teens — delivered a set that left all who witnessed it in no doubt that they were looking at future legends, with Kerrang! readers later voting it as the tenth best gig of all time.
A testament to the staying power of both albums, Metal Hammer listed both albums in the Top 25 of their “The Greatest Metal Albums Of The Century.” The opportunity to see these classic albums performed in full by two bands at the top of their game in some of the U.K.’s most prestigious arenas is not one to be missed.
