THE HALO EFFECT have shared the official music video for the new song “Become Surrender”

THE HALO EFFECT have released the new song “Become Surrender”. The track has been a staple of the band’s live shows for a while now and has quickly become a fan favorite. It’s a multi-faceted tune with neck breaking riffs, grooving drums and beautiful melodies which will leave you spellbound.

Lead singer Mikael Stanne comments: “‘Become Surrender’ was written and recorded during [THE HALO EFFECT‘s debut LP] ‘Days Of The Lost’ sessions, but for some reason we left it out of the album. It has been something we have played during festivals and on our tours and the response has been nothing short of fantastic, so we decided to release it in the interim before we start rolling out singles for the second album.

“The video was shot during our sold-out show at Pustervik here in our hometown of Gothenburg in front of a few of our closest friends and hopefully the joy and love we felt in the room that night shines through.

“It’s a song about perseverance over distance and not giving in to despair or doubt. Turn it up!”

Five former members of Swedish metal band IN FLAMES united to form THE HALO EFFECT and is made up by Jesper Strömblad (guitar), Daniel Svensson (drums), Peter Iwers (bass), Niclas Engelin (guitar) and Mikael Stanne (vocals).

Jesper Strömblad, a founding member of IN FLAMES in 1990, initially collaborated with Mikael Stanne in 1993. Stanne, the founder of DARK TRANQUILITY, served as a session vocalist on IN FLAMES‘ demo tape and debut album. Niclas Engelin and Peter Iwers joined In Flames in 1997, and after Engelin‘s departure in 1998, Daniel Svensson became a member. Strömblad, Iwers, and Svensson collectively contributed to IN FLAMES for over a decade until Strömblad‘s departure in 2010.

The genesis of THE HALO EFFECT occurred in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The band, driven by the desire to revisit the roots of the 1990s “Gothenburg sound” that pioneered melodic death metal, came together with this goal in mind and have delivered just that since their inception. In a No F’n Regrets podcast interview with MACHINE HEAD‘s Robb Flynn, it was revealed that the band drew inspiration for its name from a song on RUSH‘s album “Clockwork Angels“.

Their debut single, “Shadowminds,” was released on November 9, 2021, preceding their first album, “Days of the Lost,” which came out on August 12, 2022. Supporting the album, THE HALO EFFECT embarked on a European and UK tour alongside AMON AMARTH and MACHINE HEAD in September and October of that year.

The group recently completed mixing its sophomore album for a late 2024 or early 2025 release.

THE HALO EFFECT introduced “Become Surrender” and “The Defiant One” during its Swedish tour in February 2023, both recorded concurrently with “Days Of The Lost.” These tracks are not anticipated to be featured on the band’s upcoming second album.
