SLIPKNOT Faces Legal Challenge Over Alleged Exploitation of Joey Jordison’s Death
In a recent legal development, SLIPKNOT finds itself entangled in a lawsuit filed by Joey Jordison‘s estate management company, according to documents obtained by TMZ. The lawsuit puts forth a range of allegations, including the claim that the band exploited Jordison‘s death to boost sales for their 2022 album, “The End, So Far“, following a reported decline in sales post-Jordison‘s passing.
The legal action further contends that band members Corey Taylor and Michael Shawn “Clown” Crahan purportedly claimed to have extended condolences to Joey‘s family after his demise, but the lawsuit asserts that this outreach did not take place.
The lawsuit sheds light on the circumstances surrounding Jordison‘s departure from SLIPKNOT, attributing it to his struggle with acute transverse myelitis and his subsequent removal from the band via email. Furthermore, the legal dispute claims that despite an agreement to return all of Jordison‘s belongings, including musical gear and equipment, SLIPKNOT allegedly held onto at least 22 items. Some of these items are said to be still on display in the band’s traveling museum featured at Knotfest.
In response to the legal challenge, the band has vehemently denied the allegations and has requested the court to dismiss the lawsuit.
SLIPKNOT announced it had split with Jordison back in December of 2013 yet never did officially disclose the reason for his departure.
Joey went on to issue a statement saying that he did not quit the band.
Tragically, Joey passed away in July 2021 at the age of 46, as confirmed by his family. The cause of his death was unspecified, and he is remembered fondly for his contributions to the music industry.
