Former SLIPKNOT drummer Jay Weinberg has now officially joined SUICIDAL TENDENCIES
Shortly after joining INFECTIOUS GROOVES as their new drummer, Jay Weinberg finds himself in yet another thrilling collaboration, this time with the iconic SUICIDAL TENDENCIES. This union follows closely on the heels of Weinberg‘s induction into INFECTIOUS GROOVES, a venture led by none other than METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES‘ Mike Muir, formed over three decades ago.
Earlier today, Weinberg posted the following to his social media: “When I think of the culture and community of heavy music that I’ve loved and considered my creative home for 20 years, I think of SUICIDAL TENDENCIES: a foundational pillar and source of inspiration ever since I fell in love with punk, metal, and hardcore.
“Having toured and played shows together all over the world, I’ve been so fortunate to become friends with my musical heroes who have been a part of this band’s incredible history.
“It’s an absolute honor and privilege to play with SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, and I can’t wait to start this incredibly exciting new chapter in just one week! See you all in the pit!”
INFECTIOUS GROOVES is set to hit the stage for two eagerly anticipated U.S. shows this month at the Garden Grove Amphitheater in California, followed by a brief tour of Australia in late March and early April. Weinberg‘s involvement in INFECTIOUS GROOVES came about due to Brooks Wackerman‘s commitments with AVENGED SEVENFOLD.
The 2024 lineup of INFECTIOUS GROOVES, besides Weinberg, boasts the talents of guitarists Dean Pleasants (SUICIDAL TENDENCIES) and Dave Kushner (ex-VELVET REVOLVER), alongside Muir and Trujillo.
Formed soon after Trujillo‘s arrival in SUICIDAL TENDENCIES in 1989, INFECTIOUS GROOVES was conceived as an outlet for bass-centric compositions, granting ample creative freedom to its members.
In a twist of fate, Weinberg‘s journey with SLIPKNOT, where he replaced Joey Jordison in 2013, came to an abrupt end in November 2023. SLIPKNOT announced their decision to part ways with Weinberg via social media, with the drummer expressing his shock and disappointment at the news shortly after. Weinberg bid farewell to SLIPKNOT with his final performance at the Hell & Heaven festival in Mexico on November 3.
When SLIPKNOT announced Weinberg‘s departure, the band thanked Jay “for his dedication and passion over the past ten years.” The group added: “No one can ever replace Joey Jordison‘s original sound, style or energy, but Jay honored Joey‘s parts and contributed to the last three albums and we, the band, and the fans appreciate it. But as ever, SLIPKNOT is intent on evolving. We wish Jay all the best and are very excited for what the future holds.”
Weinberg played on 2014’s “.5: The Gray Chapter“, 2019’s “We Are Not Your Kind” and 2022’s “The End, So Far”, all of which topped Billboard‘s rock albums chart.
SLIPKNOT has not yet revealed who will take Jay‘s place behind the drum kit.
