Anders Colsefni, the original singer of SLIPKNOT, and Jeffrey Nothing, the original singer of MUSHROOMHEAD, have come together as featured guests on “Breaking The Fallen,” the latest single by New Zealand’s KAOSIS
“Breaking The Fallen” emerges as a boundary-pushing nu-metal composition where Anders delivers raw and guttural vocals, interwoven with an empowering spoken-word bridge. In striking contrast, Jeffrey Nothing contributes a soaring call-and-response chorus, channeling his signature melodic aggression. The fusion of their formidable voices creates an intense, unsettling auditory journey. This remarkable musical alliance was initially conceived in 2014 during the production of MUSHROOMHEAD‘s album “The Righteous And The Butterfly.” Although the collaboration was conceived at that time, logistical challenges prevented its realization.
Anders said: “Jeff and I looked at doing this years ago, but it was Xen and the KAOSIS mob that made it all possible. Jeff is a great vocalist and it was awesome to finally work with him.”
The video for “Breaking The Fallen” draws its inspiration from 1980s cyberpunk classics and was shot entirely on greenscreen during the COVID-19 pandemic. Xen, the band’s singer and director is a huge “Robocop” fan and he brought this passion for the film to the video.
When asked what the song is about, Xen said: “‘Breaking The Fallen’ is about perseverance through trauma to become a stronger and more resilient human.”
Notably, “Breaking The Fallen” is further enhanced by the turntable skills of DJ Storm, renowned for his contributions to Eminem, PUBLIC ENEMY, and Ice-T, infusing the track with a layer of golden-era scratching.
The single “Breaking The Fallen” is a standout offering from KAOSIS‘s forthcoming second album, titled “We Are The Future.” The album showcases the talents of Jeremiah Stratton (AMERICAN HEAD CHARGE, (HED) P.E.) on drums and Peredur Ap Gwynedd (PENDULUM) on guitar.
The creation of “We Are The Future” involved collaboration with illustrious studio figures. The amplification engineering was masterfully handled by Logan Mader (ex-MACHINE HEAD, SOULFLY), known for his work with FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, GOJIRA, and FEAR FACTORY. Additionally, cinematic samples were curated by the globally acclaimed Boom Library team members, including Sebastian Johnson (noted for his contributions to “Dark Knight,” “Godzilla,” “Pacific Rim,” and “Prometheus“) and Michael Schwendler (“Mortal Kombat X” and “Elder Scrolls“).
The mastering of “We Are The Future” was entrusted to Howie Weinberg, a distinguished figure with 21 Grammy Awards to his credit. Weinberg’s illustrious portfolio includes mastering iconic releases by artists such as NIRVANA (“Nevermind“), DEFTONES (“White Pony“), METALLICA (“Master Of Puppets“), SLAYER (“Reign In Blood“), PANTERA (“Cowboys From Hell“), and LIMP BIZKIT (“Significant Other“).
Listeners can enjoy “Breaking The Fallen” across all major streaming platforms, thanks to Blood Blast Records.
Furthermore, an exciting collaboration awaits as Colsefni and Reavis join forces with KAOSIS for the “Numetal Mayhem” tour across Australasia in October. During this tour, Colsefni will treat fans to a full performance of SLIPKNOT‘s independently released debut album, “Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat.“
