EVANESCENCE’s Amy Lee recently expressed her love for mysterious metal act SLEEP TOKEN
In a recent interview with Revolver, Amy expressed her admiration and love for the enigmatic, alt-metal band. “I love Sleep Token. I’m blown away,” she says. “How do they do it? How do they go so many different directions and call it one song? It took me three listens of ‘The Summoning‘ to realize that when they do that whole psychedelic section at the end, that it’s actually the same chorus as it was before, only in a completely different way. And I love it even more for that.”
“I thought they just went a whole new direction and wrote a new part, and then I was like, ‘Wait that’s the same… but not at all.’ I love it. I think as a musician, music like that gets your brain tingling. It’s exciting. It’s like, wow, anything’s possible. It’s inspiring. I like them a lot.” Lee declares.
She continues: “I love it. I think as a musician, music like that gets your brain tingling. It’s exciting. It’s like, wow, anything’s possible. It’s inspiring. I like them a lot.”
Although Amy has prominently represented EVANESCENCE for the last two decades, SLEEP TOKEN has adopted a notably meticulous approach to anonymity. Despite these divergent strategies, the EVANESCENCE frontwoman readily acknowledges Vessel‘s decision to eschew the cult of personality in his project, emphasizing a spotlight on the music itself.
“I think it’s amazing,” Amy says of SLEEP TOKEN‘s anonymity. “I think too much these days the focus is on everything but the music with a lot of the mainstream. And for me, if there’s not the music then what are we doing? That’s what this is supposed to be about. I love it. I think it’s awesome. It’s creative. It’s really cool.”
After releasing a handful of new tracks throughout the early part of 2023, SLEEP TOKEN unleashed the follow-up to 2021’s critically acclaimed “This Place Will Become Your Tomb” called “Take Me Back To Eden“ in May of last year.
The LP arrived via Spinefarm Records and followed the release of the singles “Chokehold“, “The Summoning“, “Granite“, “Aqua Regia” and “Vore“.
“Take Me Back To Eden is Part 3 of a trilogy, a spectacular chapter-closer in the ongoing Sleep Token saga,” explained a press release for the LP. “A saga that kicked off in earnest with debut album, Sundowning.”
