In celebration of their 30-year musical journey, Norwegian black metal stalwarts DIMMU BORGIR are unveiling a remarkable compilation of their cover songs, a first in their illustrious career
This album, aptly titled “Inspiratio Profanus,” kicks off with a thunderous rendition of “Black Metal,” originally by the extreme metal pioneers VENOM, and sets the tone for the collection.
Scheduled for release on December 8 through Nuclear Blast Records, “Inspiratio Profanus” is a captivating showcase of DIMMU BORGIR‘s artistic versatility. It includes their genre-defining take on “Perfect Strangers” (originally by DEEP PURPLE), the fan-favorite “Burn In Hell” (originally by TWISTED SISTER), and electrifying interpretations of tracks by legendary bands such as CELTIC FROST, among other immensely influential artists.
DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Silenoz comments: “We’re pleased to announce the ‘Inspiratio Profanus’ release! We thought it was about time to finally compile the cover songs we’ve done over the years and give these renditions an updated mastering, all in one package, highlighting some of our many influences!”
DIMMU BORGIR guitarist Sven Atle Kopperud (a.k.a. Silenoz) states about the first song “Black Metal”: “‘Black Metal’, the track and its origin, features something really primeval, raw and unhinged. There is lawlessness and danger connected to it. We did our best to capture the spirit of the ancient gods’ rock ‘n’ roll 24 years later. Did we do it justice? I think so.”
The band’s previous albums, “Abrahadabra” and “Eonian,” marked a string of successes.
“Eonian” was released precisely in time for the band’s 25th anniversary in 2018, a notable eight years after its predecessor, “Abrahadabra.” Throughout this period, the infernal core trio of Shagrath, Silenoz, and Galder toured extensively worldwide, gracing renowned metal festivals including Wacken Open Air and Hellfest.
