OVERKILL’s D.D. Verni Makes Thrashing Return After Shoulder Surgery
Thrash metal veterans OVERKILL welcomed back a familiar face to the stage on May 17th! Original bassist D.D. Verni, who sat out the band’s recent “Scorching Latin America 2024” tour due to shoulder surgery, made a triumphant return at the Milwaukee Metal Fest at The Rave/Eagles Club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Fans in Latin America were treated to the talents of David Ellefson, former MEGADETH bassist, who filled in for Verni admirably. Ellefson‘s first show with OVERKILL took place on April 11th at C3 Stage in Guadalajara, Mexico, and he remained on bass duties for the tour’s entirety, which concluded on April 28th in São Paulo, Brazil.
OVERKILL‘s return to the road comes in support of their critically acclaimed twentieth studio album, “Scorched,” released in April 2023 via Nuclear Blast Records. “Scorched” marked a shift in the band’s recording process, with each member tackling their parts remotely.
Mixing duties fell to the legendary Colin Richardson, known for his work with bands like MACHINE HEAD and FEAR FACTORY. Richardson isn’t new to the OVERKILL family, having previously mixed their albums “From The Underground And Below” (1997), “Bloodletting” (2000), and “Killbox 13” (2003). Assisting Richardson was Chris Clancy, with Johnny Rodd handling vocal production. The finishing touches were delivered by mastering maestro Maor Appelbaum, while returning artist Travis Smith crafted the album’s striking cover art.
