OBITUARY, stalwarts of Floridian death metal, have unleashed a new music video for their track “Barely Alive.”
Shot by Natalie Wood during the band’s UK tour last year, the video captures the raw intensity of OBITUARY‘s live performances. For fans eager to witness the mayhem firsthand, OBITUARY is hitting the road again, with their upcoming tour set to kick off tonight, April 18th.
OBITUARY will also be hitting the road with AMON AMARTH, CANNIBAL CORPSE and FROZEN SOUL commencing on April 24 for a massive North American run.
The trek will run through May 25th and see the twenty-four-date journey include a raid at the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver as well as arena stops in Portland, Vancouver, Quebec City, Asheville, Tampa, and Anaheim. See all confirmed dates below.

Emerging from the sun-drenched shores of Tampa, Florida, in 1984, OBITUARY wasn’t your typical beach band. Instead, they became pioneers of death metal, a subgenre known for its guttural vocals, intense drumming, and downtuned guitars. Initially called EXECUTIONER, then XECUTIONER, they settled on OBITUARY in 1988.
The core of the band consists of the Tardy brothers – vocalist John and drummer Donald – and guitarist Trevor Peres. Though the lineup has seen changes over the years, these three remain the driving force. Their 1989 debut album, “Slowly We Rot,” is considered a landmark in death metal, showcasing their ability to weave complex arrangements and pummeling riffs with John Tardy‘s inhuman growls.
Early albums like “Cause of Death” (1990) and “The End Complete” (1992) solidified their reputation for sonic brutality. OBITUARY wasn’t just about aggression, though. Tracks like “Slowly We Rot” and “Chopped in Half” displayed a surprising melodic sense beneath the surface. Their music resonated with fans seeking an outlet for darker emotions, and their influence can be heard in countless death metal bands today.
Despite a hiatus from 1997 to 2003, OBITUARY has remained active, steadfast in their commitment to their signature sound. With their latest album, “Dying Of Everything” (2023), they proved that the veterans of death metal can still deliver bone-crushing riffs and thought-provoking lyrics. Undeniably, OBITUARY‘s impact on the genre is undeniable, leaving a legacy of unrelenting heaviness and inspiring a generation of musicians.
