On Saturday, October 28, FOO FIGHTERS made a triumphant return to the stage of Saturday Night Live, marking their first appearance on the show since the untimely passing of their drummer, Taylor Hawkins, in March 2022
FOO FIGHTERS delivered a pair of outstanding musical performances and even made some memorable cameo appearances in sketches alongside host Nate Bargatze. A particularly delightful moment came when legendary actor Christopher Walken, known for his quirky enunciation, managed to correctly say the band’s name when introducing them. This brought the audience a moment of amusement and nostalgia, as Walken had previously struggled with the pronunciation during their 2003 SNL appearance.
During their performance, FOO FIGHTERS showcased two tracks from their latest studio album, “But Here We Are,” which arrived earlier this year. The set included “Rescued,” the lead single, and “The Glass,” the final single from the LP. This marked the first time the band’s new drummer, Josh Freese, played with them on SNL. The performances were characterized by precision and emotional depth, showcasing the band’s ability to continue delivering impactful music despite the challenges they’ve faced.
A noteworthy surprise occurred during the performance of “The Glass,” as R&B singer/songwriter H.E.R. joined FOO FIGHTERS on guitar and backing vocals. According to SPIN, H.E.R. is preparing to release her own version of “The Glass,” hinting at a potentially great rendition.
Beyond the musical performances, fans of the band were treated to Dave Grohl’s comedic talents in two sketches. One of these sketches parodied country/yacht rock, featuring a fictitious band called Mudpuddle. Grohl‘s humorous portrayal of one of the uncles, complete with a mullet and yellow sunglasses, added a touch of hilarity.
The other sketch showcased Grohl as a peculiar doctor during an in-flight debate about the best jobs, delivering another dose of laughter. To add to the festive atmosphere, FOO FIGHTERS donned costumes from “The Wizard of Oz” in the episode’s promotional bumpers, embracing the Halloween spirit.
