DEFTONES recently unveiled a unique creation, but this time it’s not in the form of music—it’s tequila
Teaming up with Abre Ojos Tequila, the Sacramento, California band embarked on a collaboration to release limited edition bottles inspired by their iconic albums.
The newest release in this partnership commemorates their 2020 album “Ohms,” marking the second installment in this two-part series.
“Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, this tequila embodies the essence of Deftones’ music and the energy of their fans,” the official announcement for the product reads. “Each bottle is a collector’s item, reflecting the band’s signature style.
“Inside the bottle, you’ll discover a crafted tequila using the finest agave and traditional production methods.”
To create this tequila, the distillers blend 100% blue weber agave and subject it to traditional brick oven cooking, followed by fermentation in open-air tanks.
“This añejo is twice distilled and then aged in used whiskey-American oak barrels for almost two years,” the announcement explains.
“This spirit offers a harmonious balance of flavors, with hints of caramel and oak, delivering a truly exceptional sipping experience.”
The bottles are available now, priced at $104.49.
Speaking of DEFTONES, guitarist Stephen Carpenter recently revealed the band have been hard at work on the follow-up to 2020’s “Ohms“.
Amidst a conversation on Gnostic Academy published last July, where Carpenter expressed his views on flat earth and more, he also provided an update on DEFTONES‘ forthcoming tenth studio album.
Carpenter revealed that they are once again collaborating with producer Nick Raskulinecz, known for his work with bands like ALICE IN CHAINS and MASTODON, for this upcoming record. Carpenter said: “In the last couple months, really two or three months, we… well maybe a little longer now, really… February is when we started. We starting to work on new material for a new record.
“It’s going good. It’s a little slow at first, but it always is. Dragging our feet ain’t nothing new. But we’ve got the stuff up and going now, and yeah. We’re on a good little momentum at the moment and we hope to have it all done and out by next spring or summer. I mean, there’s no official date yet but that’s our goal.”
He also added: “Everything stems from us just jamming out some ideas, messing around. Someone comes up with something that maybe someone else or everyone else likes, and then we focus in on that for a little bit. That’s what Nick‘s great at doing, too. He’s good at… well we could just sit and jam aimlessly and plow through idea after idea without even stopping to recognize ’em.
“He’s great at saying ‘that idea is really cool. Let’s try that. Let’s try to work on that for a minute, and then that other idea might be really cool with that one. Let’s try putting them together’ and stuff like that. So that’s what’s awesome about him. He’s like a an unofficial band member at that point. He’s good at giving us direction where we don’t normally do that well on our own.”
The individual responsible for taking on the bass responsibilities for the upcoming DEFTONES album remains uncertain. Fred Sablan has been filling that role during live performances ever since the band parted ways with Sergio Vega.
Known for their unique blend of heavy metal, alternative rock, and shoegaze influences, DEFTONES rose to prominence in the late 1990s with the release of their breakthrough album, “Around the Fur” (1997), followed by their critically acclaimed and commercially successful album, “White Pony” (2000).

Despite facing personal and professional challenges over the years, including the tragic loss of founding bassist Chi Cheng in 2013, DEFTONES have remained resilient and continued to evolve musically. Their dedication to artistic exploration and emotional depth has earned them a dedicated fanbase and critical acclaim.
