On March 8, Alice Cooper is set to unveil a commemorative edition marking the 50th anniversary of his band’s sole chart-topping album, “Billion Dollar Babies”
The expanded reissue, known as the Trillion Dollar Deluxe Edition, comes in either a two-CD or three-LP format, encompassing a disc of live recordings from the era, along with outtakes and single versions. The track listing is provided below for your reference.
Originally launched in early 1973, “Billion Dollar Babies” soared to the pinnacle of the charts, maintaining its No. 1 status for an impressive 50 weeks and achieving platinum certification. The album spawned four singles, all breaking into the Top 60: “Elected,” “Hello Hurray,” “No More Mr. Nice Guy,” and the titular track.
This upcoming reissue showcases a freshly remastered rendition of the album, with the vinyl edition featuring the authentic textured gatefold sleeve and an accompanying $1 billion bill. The single version of “Elected” is currently available for streaming.
What’s included in Alice Cooper‘s ‘Billion Dollar Babies‘ Box Set? In addition to the original album’s 10 tracks, the reissue incorporates single versions of “Hello Hurray,” “Billion Dollar Babies,” “Elected,” and “Mary Ann.” Also featured are the outtakes “Cool Black Model T” and “Son of Billion Dollar Babies (Generation Landslide),” along with “Slick Black Limousine,” initially released as a flexi-disc in a New Musical Express issue.
A live performance from Texas in April 1973, shortly after the album’s debut, includes renditions of several “Billion Dollar Babies” tracks and other iconic Alice Cooper hits like “I’m Eighteen,” “School’s Out,” and “Under My Wheels.”
The liner notes offer reflections from band members Alice Cooper, Dennis Dunaway, Michael Bruce, and Neal Smith, as well as producer Bob Ezrin. Cooper reminisces, stating, “We were writing those songs looking at each other, and every time we’d write a line I’d say, ‘Oh, this is gonna kill them. Oh, they’re gonna hate us on this one,'” Cooper recalls in the notes. “But at the same time, it was almost like an Edgar Allan Poe short story when you listen to ‘I Love The Dead.’ I tried to write that the way Vincent Price would sing it.”
