Iconic BLACK SABBATH guitarist Tony Iommi has confirmed that he has a new solo album in the works

The BLACK SABBATH guitarist made a recent appearance on Full Metal Jackie‘s nationally syndicated radio show, and confirmed that he is working on material for a new Tony Iommi solo album. He said (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET): “I am writing stuff now for my own, for an album. So that’s exciting too. And there’s no pressure. I just do stuff when I feel like it, because, obviously, I’ve got a life to live and I like to do all the different stuff.

“But I’ve really enjoyed doing this stuff, as I did with Ozz [BLACK SABBATH singer Ozzy Osbourne] when I’d done a couple of tracks for his last [solo] album [‘Patient Number 9’], which was good, to work with Ozz again. And I’m quite open for all that now. Whatever comes, and I like it, I do it.”

When asked if he is going to release an actual record or if he will just be dropping periodic singles, Iommi responded: “No, I’m gonna do a record. And I’ve got a lot of stuff. But now we’re actually getting around to sort of putting it together, myself and the engineer. So it’s been good fun, really. And as I say, there’s no pressure. I can just do it — I don’t have to do it by next week. And because of everything else [that has] been lurking around, I have to take my time in doing things. But it’s been fun. And that’s what it’s all about, really. And I’m looking forward to actually doing it and an album coming out.”

Tony Iommi also revealed that he is currently working on a new solo song to go along with the upcoming release of his second signature cologne, which will be another collaboration with Italian luxury perfume house Xerjoff.

Tony Iommi isn’t just known for conjuring up earth-shattering riffs – he’s also got a nose for the finer things! Back in 2021, while the world was still navigating the pandemic, Iommi struck up an unlikely friendship with Sergio Momo, a renowned perfumer and designer for Xerjoff, a brand known for its unique and bold fragrances. This collaboration resulted in “Scent Of Dark,” Iommi‘s signature cologne, and even featured some of Momo‘s own impressive guitar work on the track.

While Iommi might be branching out into the olfactory world, he hasn’t forgotten his musical roots. The new solo album from the BLACK SABBATH guitarist would mark Iommi‘s third solo outing, following the critically acclaimed “Iommi” (2000) and the star-studded “Fused” (2005).

Speaking of star-studded, “Fused” featured a powerhouse lineup with ex-DEEP PURPLE bassist/vocalist Glenn Hughes and drummer Kenny Aronoff (whose resume boasts both the “Iommi” album and years with John Mellencamp) laying down the foundation.

But the real treat for fans was the guest parade on “Iommi.” Imagine cranking up an album featuring the iconic vocals of Philip Anselmo (PANTERA), the spoken word intensity of Henry Rollins, and the soaring melodies of Serj Tankian (SYSTEM OF A DOWN). That’s not all – the guest list also included Skin (SKUNK ANANSIE), the late Peter Steele (TYPE O NEGATIVE), Ian Astbury (THE CULT), and even Dave Grohl (FOO FIGHTERS) himself! Talk about a heavy metal dream team.

While BLACK SABBATH officially closed the curtain on their groundbreaking 49-year career with “The End” tour in 2017, Iommi‘s diagnosis with lymphoma in 2011 unfortunately limited his ability to tour extensively. However, this hasn’t stopped the riff master from creating new music. So, keep an ear out for news on the upcoming solo album – it’s bound to be a scorcher!
