STRYPER Rocks Buffalo With Unplugged Tour, Teases New Album & Documentary

Christian metal pioneers STRYPER brought their “To Hell With The Amps: The Unplugged Tour” to Buffalo’s Town Ballroom on Saturday (June 8th). The tour features a stripped-down rendition of their recently released first acoustic album, “Acousticyzed.”

This unique double-disc set offers a fresh take on STRYPER classics. Fans can expect everything from the high-energy anthems “Loud & Clear” and “Soldiers Under Command” to the power ballad “Honestly,” all reimagined in an intimate acoustic setting. The 11-track collection even includes a brand new rendition of the beloved hymn “Amazing Grace.”

Fan Favorites Get Unplugged Treatment

Guitarist Oz Fox is currently sidelined after undergoing brain surgery, but the show goes on! Filling in for Fox is Will Doughty, a respected Nashville musician known for his keyboard work with POISON.

Fan footage of the Buffalo concert, including a cover of BON JOVI‘s “Livin’ On A Prayer,” is already making waves online and can be seen below.

“We’re excited to show people a totally different translation of these songs,” says STRYPER frontman Michael Sweet said in a statement. “Most of the acoustic shows will be set in smaller, more intimate venues, and the set is naturally more toned down. It will feel like a family affair, like everyone is sitting in our living room listening to us play.”

Sweet also made note that the band will follow the acoustic trek with a 40th anniversary tour commencing September 13, 2024. “The anniversary tour will feature songs ranging across our entire discography,” he revealed. “We’ll perform a set consisting of our classic songs, then play a second set containing more recent material.”

Sweet also made note that the band’s live performances will feature everything from massive production to wardrobe changes. “We will be changing outfits from a classic look to a modern look, with production to match,” he said. “It will definitely be unprecedented because it’s important to come up with a unique way for fans to celebrate this milestone anniversary with us.”

New Studio Album & Documentary on the Horizon

But STRYPER isn’t just revisiting the past. The band just wrapped up recording a brand new studio album, promising “all killer, no filler” according to frontman Michael Sweet. This high-energy collection is slated for a fall 2024 release.

STRYPER is also making significant progress on their Kickstarter-funded documentary film. The project surpassed its initial goal thanks to over 1,700 backers who pledged a whopping $220,000! This outpouring of support earned the film a coveted “Projects We Love” designation on the crowdfunding platform.

“We found a brilliant director, Chris Atkins, and it’s being filmed now,” said Sweet, adding that footage will be captured throughout the rest of this year. “We’re excited to see it’s finally happening.”

STRYPER: A Legacy of Faith-Based Metal

Formed over four decades ago, STRYPER‘s name draws inspiration from Isaiah 53:5. Their music has resonated with fans worldwide, with iconic albums like “To Hell With The Devil,” “Second Coming,” and “The Final Battle” solidifying their place in metal history.

Currently, the band features Michael Sweet (vocals, guitar), his brother Robert Sweet (drums), Perry Richardson (bass), and touring guitarist Will Doughty filling in for Oz Fox.
