If you had told me in the late 80’s that one day METALLICA would play ‘Battery’ on a late night talk show….well, let’s just say I would have laughed my ass off before chugging another can of Coors and attempting to crush said can on my forehead. Well here we are in 2021 amidst a global pandemic and it happened.
METALLICA celebrated the 35th anniversary of their classic third album, “Master Of Puppets”, by performing “Battery” on last night’s (Wednesday, March 3) episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”. Fuckin’ Battery! Not ‘Sanitarium (Welcome Home). Not ‘Orion’. Not even the title track. No. They played fucking ‘Battery’!
This isn’t the first time that METALLICA has appeared on a talk show hosted by Stephen Colbert. In May 2017, METALLICA performed the song “Now That We’re Dead” on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”. Prior to that, the band sat down for an interview and performed on Comedy Central’s “The Colbert Report” in September 2013. More recently, METALLICA performed “Enter Sandman” on “A Late Show: Super Bowl Edition”, a live special edition of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert”, on February 7.
I guess it was just nice to watch them perform anything other than ‘Enter Sandman’ for the bazillionth time.
Anyways, here ya go.
Fuckin’ ‘Battery’. Awesome.
