PANTERA performed yesterday (Sunday, December 11) at Knotfest Chile in Santiago without bassist Rex Brown.

Filling in for Brown was CATTLE DECAPITATION bassist Derek Engemann, who also plays with PANTERA singer Phil Anselmo in both PHILIP H. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS and the black metal group SCOUR. You can check out some fan-filed video of the performance below.

Knotfest Chile organizers revealed in an official statement that the cause for Rex’s absence was “health problems”, while local radio station Futuro reported that the bassist missed the Santiago performance due to contracting COVID-19. Rex reportedly returned home to the United States where he will remain under quarantine. Unfortunately, this means Brown will be missing the remainder of PANTERA‘s shows in South America.

PANTERA‘s reformed lineup consists of original members Brown and vocalist Phil Anselmo along with guitarist Zakk Wylde (OZZY OSBOURNE, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and drummer Charlie Benante (ANTHRAX).

Charlie Benante shared a video of the Santiago concert and included the following message: “#chile was on fire!!!! We missed Rex tonight , get better buddy! Damn it was a hot one”.
