So perhaps you caught METALLICA performing on the “A Late Show: Super Bowl Edition”, live special hosted by Stephen Colbert on Sunday (February 7).
In case you didn’t, can you take a wild guess as to what song they played without looking at the headline of this post? Why, they played the classic song “Enter Sandman” of course! Recorded live from METALLICA’s headquarters in San Rafael, California and beamed to the world via that thing called tv.
Now granted, METALLICA appeared on “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” back in May of 2017, and performed the song “Now That We’re Dead”, which obviously is not “Enter Sandman”, however you gotta admit it seems that whenever METALLICA are set to make an appearance on television for any type of special occasion or event, you can pretty well guarantee the band is gonna whip out the 1990 “Black Album” opener that everyone has heard so many times before that we’ve just given up the hope of being able to crank up the boob tube volume to anything else from the band’s massive catalogue of tunes.
The band even pulled out the song, along with THE ROOTS, during a 2016 appearance on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon”, all the while playing the tune with classroom instruments. I’m sorry but that counts.
I guess I’m just trying to say it would be a welcome change to be able to tune in to any such appearance of METALLICA on any “late night” television program or sports extravaganza and be smacked in the face with “Ride The Lightning”, “The Four Horsemen” or even “Sanitarium (Welcome Home)”.
Anyways, here’s METALLICA playing “Enter Sandman” on “A Late Show: Super Bowl Edition”, hosted by Stephen Colbert.
