The death of vocalist/bassist Peter Steele on April 14, 2010 sealed TYPE O NEGATIVE’s fate with the remaining three members deciding not to move ahead without the massive frontman

Formed in Brooklyn, New York, in 1989, TYPE O NEGATIVE consisted of Steele, guitarist Kenny Hickey, keyboardist Josh Silver, and drummer Sal Abruscato, who would later be replaced by Johnny Kelly.

The band’s gothic style doom metal would give birth to the nickname “the Drab Four” (in homage to THE BEATLES‘ “Fab Four” moniker) and would see TYPE O NEGATIVE hit platinum status with 1993’s “Bloody Kisses” release, and gold with 1996’s “October Rust“, gaining a rabid fanbase through seven studio albums, two best-of compilations, and concert DVDs.

We recently sat down with TYPE O NEGATIVE drummer Johnny Kelly and asked him who he would like to see step in for the late Peter Steele should the occasion ever arise in the form of a tribute concert or possible (yet unfortunately, highly unlikely) Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction performance.

You can check out Johnny’s answer in the video below. One thing we can tell you is that “no man” could ever truly replace Peter Steele. And Johnny agrees.

You can also tune in to the full interview next week on The Loaded Radio Podcast.
