Today’s date (Friday, February 24) marks the 20-year anniversary of bassist Robert Trujillo joining METALLICA

METALLICA commemorated the occasion by sharing a photo from 20 years ago, along with the caption: “20 years of @robtrujillo and counting! Our brother joined the band #OnThisDay in 2003.”

Trujillo also posted about the milestone anniversary, sharing a pic of him with METALLICA with the accompanying message: “Crazy to think it’s been 20 incredible years since James [Hetfield, METALLICA frontman] picked me up from Oakland Airport with Lars [Ulrich, METALLICA drummer] and Kirk [Hammett, METALLICA guitarist] as passengers in his big white truck…Lol, that night changed my life forever.

“Much Love to Lars, James, and Kirk and to the best frikin fans on the planet for the respect, love and support you’ve given me, I can’t wait to take the stage again with my brothers very soon! Peace! And I love you all”.

Trujillo joined METALLICA on February 24, 2003, two years after the departure of bassist Jason Newsted. Robert had already been familiar with his future bandmates since SUICIDAL TENDENCIES supported METALLICA during the “Nowhere Else to Roam” tour in 1993, and again during the “Shit Hits the Sheds” Tour one year later. Trujillo’s audition and hiring were captured for the documentary film “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster“.

As the current bassist for METALLICA, Robert was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame alongside all current members of the band, as well as previous bassists Jason Newsted and Cliff Burton.
