METALLICA’s music was streamed 1.6 billion times on Spotify in 2022, marking the fourth year in a row that the band’s songs were played more than a billion times on the digital music service provider

The news was revealed via METALLICA‘s social media on Saturday (December 31), with the band captioning: “You guys have outdone yourselves once again! 137 million hours of METALLICA were streamed on @spotify in 2022, up by more than 20 million hours from last year. Whether you’re new to METALLICA, or you’ve been listening for the past 41 years, we’d like to extend a huge ‘THANK YOU’ to the entire METALLICA Family.”

Also, METALLICA‘s 1991 song “Enter Sandman“, which was the lead single from the band’s self-titled fifth studio album (aka the Black Album), now sits alongside LINKIN PARK‘s “In The End” and “Numb“, AC/DC’s “Highway To Hell“, “Back In Black” and “Thunderstruck” and NIRVANA‘s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” in Spotify’s 1 billion streams club after achieving the massive milestone.

METALLICA‘s 12th studio album, “72 Seasons“, is due on April 14, 2023 via the band’s own Blackened Recordings. Produced by Greg Fidelman with METALLICA‘s James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, “72 Seasons” is the band’s first full-length album since 2016’s “Hardwired…To Self-Destruct“.
