According to TMZ, legendary IRON BUTTERFLY drummer Ron Bushy has died at the age of 79.
Ron was the only member of IRON BUTTERFLY to appear on all six of the band’s albums, yet it was the band’s 1968 song “In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”, which features one of the most legendary drum solos in rock’ history courtesy of Bushy, that reay put the psychedelic act on the map. The 17-minute title track to the band’s second album helped the record sell more than 30 million copies, with a cut down three-minute version of the song going on to become a rock radio staple.
Ron passed away this morning at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after a battle with esophageal cancer.
In 2012, IRON BUTTERFLY guitarist Larry “Rhino” Reinhardt passed away with bassist Lee Dorman dying later that same year.
Bushy is survived by his wife, Nancy, their three daughters and six grandchildren.
