The last time Newsted played live on stage with VOIVOD was at the 2013 edition of Hellfest in Clisson, France and in June 2016 at Slim’s in San Francisco, California.

Newsted became a member of the the Canadian alt-metal band back in 2002 and also produced VOIVOD‘s self-titled album in 2003.

Jason Newsted, a renowned bassist, is best known for his tenure with iconic heavy metal band METALLICA. Born in Battle Creek, Michigan, he joined METALLICA in 1986 as a replacement for late bassist Cliff Burton. He made his debut on the band’s influential album “…And Justice for All” (1988), contributing his powerful bass playing (which were unfortunately dropped to an almost inaudible volume in post-production for the record) and backing vocals.

During his time with METALLICA, Newsted became an integral part of their sound, recording on albums like “Metallica” (1991) and “Load” (1996). He also showcased his songwriting skills, contributing tracks such as “Blackened” and “My Friend of Misery.”

After departing METALLICA in 2001, Newsted joined VOIVOD as their bassist. He brought renewed energy to the band and contributed to their albums “Voivod” (2003) and “Katorz” (2006).

In 2012, Newsted formed his eponymous band, NEWSTED, as a platform for his own creative endeavors. The band released the EP “Metal” in 2013, followed by the full-length album “Heavy Metal Music” later that year. These releases showcased Newsted‘s songwriting and vocal abilities, along with his signature bass-driven sound.

While Newsted disbanded in 2014, the band recently announced it’s relaunch, with the bassist expressing his desire to create new music and continue performing. The relaunch has sparked excitement among fans, who eagerly await new releases and live performances from the talented bassist and his band.
