Former BAD WOLVES frontman Tommy Vext has once again run into some problems with the law

The folks over at Lambgoat report that Tommy Vext (real name Thomas Cummings), the former frontman for BAD WOLVES and DIVINE HERESY, was arrested on May 12th, 2024 by the Gila County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona. The reported charge is “Threatening or Intimidating / Physical Injury or Property Damage.” Details surrounding the incident remain undisclosed.

This isn’t Vext‘s first brush with controversy. In 2020, he faced domestic violence allegations from his ex-girlfriend, Whitney Johns, resulting in a restraining order and court-ordered compensation for Johns‘ legal fees. Additionally, a 2008 incident at a metal concert saw Vext accused of an altercation with the wife of FEAR FACTORY guitarist Dino Cazares. This followed shortly after his dismissal from DIVINE HERESY, by Cazares, due to apparent anger issues.

Vext‘s departure from BAD WOLVES in 2021 stemmed from reported internal disagreements and a string of public controversies, including his comments on social and political issues.

Vext‘s arrest marks one of three reported arrests made by the Gila County Sheriff’s Office on May 12th.

BAD WOLVES: A Howling Success Story (and a Bumpy Breakup)

BAD WOLVES emerged from the Los Angeles metal scene in 2017, a formidable force formed by seasoned musicians with impressive pedigrees. The band quickly carved a niche with their blend of aggressive riffs, soaring vocals, and emotionally charged lyrics. But their journey wasn’t without its twists and turns, particularly surrounding the departure of Vext.

From Ashes They Rise

The story begins with drummer John Boecklin (ex-DEVILDRIVER) who, along with guitarist Doc Coyle (ex-GOD FORBID), laid the groundwork for BAD WOLVES. They soon enlisted the talents of bassist Kyle Konkiel (ex-IN THIS MOMENT) and guitarist Chris Cain (ex-BURY YOUR DEAD, ex-FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS). The final piece of the puzzle arrived in the form of vocalist Tommy Vext, known previously from DIVINE HERESY and WESTFIELD MASSACRE.

This lineup boasted a potent combination of experience and raw energy. Each member brought not only musical prowess but also a hunger to create something new and impactful.

A Debut Roars: Disobey and the Power of “Zombie”

Their debut album, “Disobey,” unleashed in 2018, was a critical and commercial success. It wasn’t just the ferocious originals that resonated with audiences; a cover of THE CRANBERRIES‘ “Zombie” became a runaway hit, topping the Billboard Mainstream Rock Songs chart. Vext‘s powerful vocals delivered Dolores O’Riordan‘s iconic melody with a fresh intensity, breathing new life into the classic track.

The success of “Disobey” propelled BAD WOLVES onto the touring circuit, sharing stages with rock giants like FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH, SHINEDOWN, and BREAKING BENJAMIN. Their live show was a force to be reckoned with, showcasing the band’s technical mastery and electrifying stage presence.

Building Momentum: N.A.T.I.O.N. and Beyond

Riding the wave of their debut, BAD WOLVES released their sophomore album, “N.A.T.I.O.N.,” in 2019. The album continued their sonic assault, churning out tracks like “Remember When” and “Killing Me Slowly” that became staples on rock radio. However, cracks were beginning to appear within the band.

A Parting of Ways: The Exit of Tommy Vext

In January 2021, BAD WOLVES announced the departure of Vext. The reasons behind the split were multifaceted, with reports citing both musical disagreements and Vext‘s involvement in public controversies. Vext himself claimed his departure stemmed from creative differences and clashes over his social and political stances.

A New Chapter: The Band Marches On

Despite the loss of their frontman, BAD WOLVES remained resolute. They recruited Daniel “DL” Laskiewicz (ex-THE ACACIA STRAIN) as their new vocalist and released the critically acclaimed album “Dear Monsters” in 2021. The album showcased the band’s ability to evolve, retaining their signature sound while exploring new lyrical themes.

BAD WOLVES‘ story continues to be written. With a new voice leading the charge, they’re poised to keep the metal flag flying high. While the split with Tommy Vext marked a significant shift, it hasn’t diminished the band’s raw power and dedication to crafting heavy music that resonates with fans worldwide.
